I got my first camera as a present for my graduation from ninth grade. It was a Canon Snappy and the year was 1983. Proudly, I took it to the graduation dance, and I didn't take a single picture. Turns out, the lens cover was controlled by a mechanical slider that I couldn't find, and the camera knew better than to take pictures with the cover closed.
I'm a little better at managing my equipment today, though I have been known to drop a relatively expensive camera in the surf and I often travel without a lens cap.
My grandmother would be proud of me. I know she can see my pictures, even today.
